Over the past few months, many other streaming devices were announced with Plex clients built in, including the Nvidia Shield Android TV. Last November, the official Plex app arrived on the Apple TV, eliminating the need for a dedicated computer connected to your HDTV. Plex has spent much of the last year branching out beyond its original service offering, which requires both a media server, like a NAS, and a PC or Mac connected to each living room television to which you want to stream your music and videos. The company says it's planning to offer compatibility with more cloud storage providers in the future. Plex Pass is $4.99 per month, $39.99 per year, or $149.99 for a lifetime subscription. The beta service is free to Plex Pass subscribers, although Amazon Drive costs $60 per year for unlimited storage. Once you sign up, you can stream anything stored in your Amazon Drive account to a Plex client connected to your TV. It eliminates the need to run your own local Plex media server and manage an always-on computer or network attached storage device (NAS).
